Nothing could be more British than the collective excitement for the arrival of summer and, with it, the opportunity to clink glasses over panoramic views of the city as London’s rooftop bars finally reopen.
From glass elevators to Ibiza sun loungers and Sunday jazz sessions, there’s a rooftop terrace for every taste and occasion. We’ve picked our top five favourites that you’d be mad to miss this season.
Bōkan 39
Escape the hustle and bustle of Canary Wharf and head up high to the easy-going and informal hideaway that is Bōkan 39. The roof terrace hosts daybeds, Sunday jazz sessions and offers spectacular views of the city. The cocktail selection will leave you spoilt for choice, the London Docklands-inspired menu celebrating the rich history of Canary Wharf with evocatively-named drinks like Milligan’s Mast and Duke of Docks.
Radio Rooftop Bar
With a dress code that’s strictly smart and glamorous, Radio Rooftop Bar is the obvious choice if you’re in need of a seriously sparkling evening to accompany your sparkling wine. This drinking destination is on the 10th floor of the ME London hotel and promises to transport you to an Ibiza sun lounge in seconds – if an Ibiza sun lounge offered striking views of the London skyline.
SUSHISAMBA
If you’ve ever wanted to take a ride in Willy Wonka’s great glass elevator, now you can – except this one takes you to cocktail heaven. Take a ride in SUSHISAMBA’s panoramic glass elevators all the way up to the 38th and 39ths floors for 360 degree views of London. Known mostly for the iconic tree in the middle of the terrace bar, SUSHISAMBA is an unmissable experience that allows you to sip drinks under the sun or stars, with fire pits and blankets to make it even more cosy!
Frank’s Cafe at Bold Tendencies
Celebrating its 10th year providing drinks for all, Frank’s Cafe is an aperitif hotspot and architectural masterpiece in Peckham. Designed by Practice Architecture, this particular rooftop is child and dog friendly all day everyday! Providing a view with a difference, this is worth heading over to the South Side of the River for.
Golden Bee
If you find yourself gasping for an alcoholic beverage in Shoreditch, look no further than Golden Bee. Whether you’re looking for a few drinks after work or a night out with friends, this particular venue ensures a lively atmosphere and tantalising cocktails to tickle your tastebuds while you indulge in sushi platters, mouth-watering canapés whilst enjoying the view.
